About Author:
Dr. Knowles spent his professional life as a geologist, working in the field as well as teaching geology at Lake Superior State University through 1996.

After his retirement, he and his wife Shirley took on a number of projects that had been waiting for his time availability, including the history of this company. It was an interest piqued one wet evening in the fall of 1948 when his headlights illuminated a Story & Clark chapel organ by the side of the road which he quickly purchased for $10 and dragged back to the garage before the rain ruined it!

They currently reside in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where Dr. Knowles is the curator of the fledgling C. Ernest Kemp Mineral Resources Museum at LSSU. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren, most of whom live nearby.
