MASON & HAMLIN
ROS Reg No. 5687

Also features Full Organ (left knee lever), and "Combination Swell" (right knee lever); when locked into a closed position against the cabinet, a series of levers and linkages is brought into play coupling the closing and opening of the reservoir to the operation of the swell shades, same as the old "Automatic Swell" invented by Geo. Woods and used by M&H for many years. When not locked, it is a normal knee swell system.
The Seraphone stop is in a separate cell board/valve/chest and very effective with a great dynamic range and contrasts remarkably with the Melodia.
I think this is a pretty early Sankey, FWIW. The heavy springs and small reservoir seem to goose the pressure somewhat, and it is a very forceful sound and quite keen when pushed hard. The early-style, numbered/454 pitch reeds are really well-done and not mealy-mouthed. "Numbered" means they have no''s 1 thru 12 stamped on them, 1=f, 2=f#, etc
Pitch is A454, Bass/treble break is at keys 31/32. Date found written in pencil on top right of stop roller board.
