KIMBALL, W.W., CO.
ROS Reg No. 6759

There is an interesting story of some of the provenance of this organ. My late father who was born in 1919 was always interested in music. He played in a dance band during his late teens to early twenties. When he was around 16 a neighbor gave him this organ. My dad told me his neighbor mentioned the organ came from the east coast in the back of a covered wagon with a member of his family in the 1800s. He also told me that it originally had a hutch on top of the organ which the neighbor and my dad had never seen. My wife and I were vacationing in Breckenridge one summer where we visited some local antique shops where I spotted this hutch sitting on a top shelf. I knew the minute I saw it that it was the right hutch for my organ. The carvings matched perfectly. The shop owner told me that she had found it in a dirt floored barn leaning against a wall. The part that was in the dirt was badly rotted, and the top arch was missing. She told me that she thought it was a top for a piano. I bought it and started researching the organ. I found an identical organ on the web with an identical hutch dated 1891 (serial# 122399). I have owned the organ since 2000 and since my retirement in 2015 I have begun restoration. The works needed a lot of attention with broken and missing wooden linkage. I pulled 27 reeds for cleaning. I have finally finished this and have a 100% functional organ including all stops. I am currently refinishing the cabinet and leaving just the right amount of patina (dents, chips etc.) because with the history of this organ I think they should be there. I will send photos of the finish as soon weather permits, and then the final assembly.
